Bill Barlee mining research collection. 1892-1954.

The research collection consists mainly of correspondence, financial records, and legal records acquired on the activities and businesses of John Morgan Harris in Slocan and vicinity, mostly from 1893-1924. Reco Mining and Milling Co., Hotel Reco, Harris and Kelly, Star Mining and Milling Company, Norman & Company Mining and Stock Brokers and the Silver-Lead Miners Association of British Columbia were some of the companies and organizations in which Harris was involved. There are documents detailing court disputes between Star Mining versus Byron N. White and Harris versus White at various levels of the legal system to the Privy Council in England. In addition the collection contains the financial records and telegrams of the W.B. Bailey Co., 1896-1902 and the financial records of Clarence Cunningham, 1916-1919.

N.L. "Bill" Barlee, born in Grand Forks, has had a varied career as a high school teacher, writer, publisher and Minister of Small Business, Tourism, Culture and Film in British Columbia, 1991-1996. He wrote Gold Creeks and Ghost Towns, 1984. He hosted an award winning television series, "Gold Trails and Ghost Towns," which ran from 1986 to 1996 on five different networks.
